Default usb to 25db cable

My Astrix server that Im using in my house has only got USB connectors.
I want to add a GSM modem to it, but this modem has only got a RS232 serial port connector.

Anyone here who knows of an USB to serial cable converter that will work with Cent OS?

Thank you.

Default usb to 25db cable

I went searching through all my electronics parts and junk and found the cable I was looking for. A USB cable that looks like it came out of a dead mouse.

On one end it has the typical flat USB connector, and the other end is terminated by a white female header connector, 5 pins. The colors of the wires 1 thick and 4 thin are thick black, 4 thin black green white red. Im assuming that the thick black wire is the cables shield wire, and the other 4 are the USB pinouts.

What Im asking is, can I trust the colors of the wires to be consistent with their designated function or is there a way to test which wire is which? I want to use this cable to connect to my 18F4550 and play with USB.

Thanks for your time

Six

Default usb to 25db cable

Ifi Has offered a "Usb Chicklet" for use with controllers, but this costs 130.

Teams can currently buy a Gameport to usb cable for around 20.

What are the performance and programming differences? In short, Why should we dish out the extra 110 for the chicklet? Thank you for your help in advance.
